Deep tissue massage therapy helps to alleviate stress and tension which build up in the bodies soft tissues during physical activity or during overexertion or overuse. Working deeply within the soft tissue can help to release the contraction of the muscle. Regular treatments can help to prevent tension reoccurring and help to heal niggling injuries.
This treatment is not just for the sports person, anyone can benefit from sports/ deep tissue massage, including people in physically demanding jobs and for those who are sat at a desk which in this instance would be repetitively using the upper body so commonly suffer with shoulder, neck and head ache.
Sports massage tends to be a more intense type of treatment as deeper techniques are used to work into the muscle. Stretching, pressure point and lots of efflueurage is used to warm the muscle and increase movement and flexibility.
Pre-event and post event massage therapies are tailored for distinct purposes. Pre-event massage is used as a supplement to an athlete’s warm up to enhance circulation and reduce excess muscle and mental tension prior to a competition.
Post-event massage on the other hand is geared towards reducing the muscle tension and spasms and metabolic build up that occur with rigorous exercise.
Sports massage can speed healing and reduce discomfort during the rehabilitation process. Soft tissue techniques employed by the sports massage therapist are effective at management of both
acute and chronic injuries.
I prefer to use a combination of warming oils and deep tissue techniques for added benefit. This is by far my most popular treatment!
